This blog will cover my trials and tribulations of taking my existing IT career from infrastructure and cloud to the fascinating world of cyber security.
I’ve spent years working in IT infrastructure and cloud services — building, migrating, and managing systems. It’s solid, rewarding work, but I’ve always been drawn to the security side of things. Understanding how systems break is just as interesting as making them work, and somewhere along the way that curiosity turned into something I couldn’t ignore.
So when the Upskill in Cyber programme came along — a UK Government funded initiative run through SANS — I applied. Over 4,600 people put their names forward, and I was selected as one of just 300 participants. It felt like a proper validation that this was the right path.
This blog will document my progress, experiences, and inevitably a few failures along the way. If you’re thinking about making a similar move, hopefully some of this will be useful. And if nothing else, it’ll keep me honest about actually doing the work.
Let’s see where this goes.
